Job Summary:

The Radiology Supervisor will assist the Radiology Management team with the operational, financial and personnel activities of the Radiology Department. The Radiology Supervisor will also assist with the compliance of all JCAHO standards, help maintain section competencies and confirm credentials stay current and up to date. The Radiology Supervisor will actively participate with Performance Improvement projects and communicate necessary information to staff members.

Responsibilities:

Promote the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.

Consider mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.

Provide radiology services by directing and coordinating the services of radiology and diagnostic imaging procedures; oversee staff in operation of imaging equipment in all modalities, including but not limited to x-ray (XR), fluoroscopy (FL), computerized tomography (CT), ultrasound (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Assist in the management of staffing hours and reduction of overtime hours.

Maintain Texas Department of Health (TDH), American College of Radiology (ACR), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Joint Commission standards, including cleanliness of work and procedural areas, all logs are filled out thoroughly, and equipment is in functional order.

Responsible for working with Radiology Management in implementing new protocols and communicating new protocols with staff.

Responsible for assisting Radiology Management with employee compliance, including reminding staff and obtaining copies of licenses and credentials, employee health requirements, and hospital issued continuing education requirements.

Assist in monitoring departmental operations and objectives to ensure the most effective services are being provided.

Collaborate with other departments to ensure deliver of quality services.

Able to perform the necessary functions on the facility's computer systems.

Assists the management team with new employee orientation and training, when needed.

Provides continuous training and communicates changes to employees, including memos and policies for review.

Continuously walking through procedure areas and check on workflow.

Coordinates reception area activities for effective communication and work flow.

Assists front office reception and registration staff with any patient care issues and delays.

Supports patient care by resolving radiology issues with physicians, radiologists, radiology technologists, and ancillary staff, and immediately performs service recovery with any patient or physician concerns or issues.

Performs and assists as a technologist with preparation of exams and equipment in modalities with completed competencies.

Performs procedures as per procedure protocols, optimizing imaging examinations to use only the radiation necessary to produce diagnostic quality images.

Performs necessary equipment quality control when needed.

Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders and directions.

Assumes responsibility for the collection and processing of patient specimens.

Completes accurate documentation on patient records according to policy.

Ensures exams are verified and completed for charging on PACS and RIS systems.

Responsible for training employees and students when needed.

Able to operate all appropriate clinical equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.

Complete and update all employment requirements, including Health.edu, Employee Health, and Radiology Competencies, and Credentials.

Responsible for earning and submitting 10 Category A credits of continuing education related to CT/MRI annually, if cleared to perform CT or MRI.

Passing of a registry does not constitute CE credits.

Leads in a way which motivates employees.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Graduate of an accredited radiology program.

Current Texas Medical Board (TMB) required within ninety (90) days of hire.

Current American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) general certification required.

American Heart Association BLS certification required.

American Heart Association ACLS and PALS recommended.

Must be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.

Secretarial experience and organizational skills are necessary.

Good verbal and written communication skills required.

Ability to read, write, and speak English required. Spanish preferred.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians.

Computer knowledge required.

Three-Five (3-5) years of experience in a healthcare setting as Radiology Tech preferred.

Three (3) years of experience as a supervisor or manager preferred.

Able to demonstrate competent levels of radiological procedures and must be knowledgeable with multiple modalities.

Demonstrates accuracy, and the ability to closely follow established procedures.

Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.

Requires working with frequent interruptions.

Must project a professional image.

Must have excellent customer service skills.

High degree of competency/experience in general diagnostic imaging.

Requires good communication and organizational skills.

Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
