Biomedical Equipment Specialist

Serving at UCLA Health offers a unique opportunity to utilize your specialized skills to enhance the lives of patients, their families, and fellow healthcare professionals. As a Biomedical Equipment Technician, you will provide critical support that enables healing to occur.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing approximately 900 workload units of general and various types of medical/patient care equipment, including life-saving/support devices.
- Repairing, servicing, calibrating, and maintaining a wide range of patient care/medical equipment, including troubleshooting to component level and routine periodic inspections.
- Performing initial acceptance inspections on medical equipment and providing technical support to nursing staff and equipment operators.
- Conducting incident evaluations on medical devices involved in events.
Assignment areas include critical care units.
Requirements:
- 3 years of experience as a BMET I or minimum 5 years of Biomedical experience.
- Skills in the use and operation of various electronic test equipment, including analog and digital electrical safety test analyzers, analog and digital voltmeters, function generators, power supplies, oscilloscopes, various pressure and vacuum gauges.
- Skills in the use and operation of various types of medical technology test equipment, including ECG (electrocardiograph), respiration and temperature simulators, and ventilators' calibration analyzers and testers.
- Ability to use hand tools and soldering/desoldering techniques.
- Ability to read, interpret, and analyze electrical schematics, block diagrams, and test procedures for a multitude of patient care/medical equipment.
- Knowledge of analog and digital electronic circuitries.
- Ability to complete various types of technical reports in clear writing.
- Basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledge and ability to operate P.C. (personal computers) to open and close work orders and complete technical documentation and reporting.
- Skills in oral communications with medical, nursing staff, various levels of hospital personnel, and vendors.
- Skills in efficient troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with other members of Clinical Engineering, Nursing, and other staff of the hospital at different levels.
Preferred qualifications include AAMI certification.
