Job Summary

The Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts is seeking a skilled Stationary Mechanic to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance group, you will be responsible for performing precision repair, major overhaul, installation, and preventive/predictive maintenance on a variety of specialized mechanical machinery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performing Complex Repairs: Disassemble machinery and determine component functional capacity using visual inspection, gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools and testing instruments.
  • Inspecting Equipment: Inspect machines and equipment parts to prevent breakdown or malfunction.
  • Collecting Diagnostic Data: Collect and evaluate diagnostic field data for predictive maintenance technologies, such as ultrasonic and/or vibration waveform data.
  • Working with Various Equipment: Perform repairs and maintenance on a variety of specialized mechanical machinery, including turbines, boilers, stationary engines, blowers, pumps, and process and instrument air compressors.
Requirements
  • Valid California Class C Driver License
  • Equivalent to Four Years of Directly Related Experience: One of the following options must be met:
    • Equivalent to four (4) years of directly related experience in the stationary mechanic apprenticeship program with the County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County, one (1) year of which must have been at the Apprentice II level
    • Four (4) years of experience performing directly related skilled maintenance or craft duties involving the repair and overhaul of a variety of comparable machinery and equipment
  • Substitution Options: One of the following substitution options may be applied toward the experience requirement:
    • Twelve (12) semester units of college coursework approved by the Districts or completion of one (1) year of a two-year trade school in a mechanical technology or closely related program may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience
    • Graduation from a two-year trade school in a mechanical technology or closely related program may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Methods and Materials: Knowledge of methods, materials, and tools used in the repair of large and complex mechanical equipment, such as engines, compressors, and pumps, and their operation.
  • Use of Precision Test Equipment: Use of precision test equipment and tools, including hand tools, welding and cutting equipment, pipe cutters and threaders, valve grinders, and various saws.
  • Occupational Hazards and Safety Regulations: Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety regulations of the trade.
