About the RoleWe are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our NAMI HelpLine team as a HelpLine Specialist. As a HelpLine Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing mental health information, resource referrals, empathy, and hope to individuals and families affected by mental health conditions.
Key Responsibilities- Respond to inquiries from help seekers via phone call, web chat, and text, providing empathetic and informative support.
- Connect individuals and families with essential resources and services, including mental health information, treatment options, and NAMI education and support programs.
- Develop a deep understanding of the mental health landscape, mental health conditions, treatment options, and recovery strategies.
- Work collaboratively with the NAMI HelpLine team to provide ongoing support and coaching to help seekers.
- Excellent communication skills, including active listening and the ability to convey a respectful and empathetic tone.
- Analytical ability with problem-solving skills and resourcefulness for assessing help seekers' needs and finding correct resources.
- Basic knowledge of mental health conditions, treatments, recovery, and mental health care systems, with an interest in learning more.
- Ability to conduct basic internet research quickly while managing phone conversations or SMS/Chat sessions.
- Verbal bilingual English/Spanish ability is strongly welcomed.
- A student or professional of mental health, or someone with lived, personal experience of mental health recovery or caring for a loved one with a mental health condition.
- Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and punctuality.
- Respect and compassion for people affected by mental health conditions, with a desire to help.
- Ability to manage emotionally stressful situations with a positive spirit and open-mindedness.
- Passion to learn about mental health conditions, resources, and behavioral health systems.
- Willingness to take initiative to seek help when needed, and ability to accept and implement constructive feedback.
