Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Medicine Specialist to join our dynamic team at Petco. As a key member of our veterinary hospital, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care, working collaboratively with our team to deliver outstanding results, and upholding our core values.

Responsibilities
  • Provide top-notch patient care by conducting physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and offering preventive care tailored to each patient's unique needs.
  • Develop and implement problem-based approaches to diagnose patient problems, including complete problem lists, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plans, and treatments based on test results.
  • Document all patient observations, findings, treatments, and interactions with clients in a clear and concise manner, adhering to practice conventions.
  • Perform routine and complex surgical procedures, including spays/neuters, abdominal exploratory surgeries, and mass removals.
  • Conduct dental procedures such as full examinations, radiograph evaluations, extractions, and oral surgical procedures.
  • Develop treatment plans for patients requiring day hospitalization, transitioning them to overnight care as needed, and ensuring seamless communication with referral hospitals.
Requirements
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school or equivalent.
  • Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state where the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date.
  • Current DEA license and Controlled Substance License (if applicable) in the state where the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date.
  • USDA Category I Accreditation (minimum) or completion within two months of hire date.
  • Proficiency in performing anesthesia and routine surgeries, including canine and feline spays, neuters, mass removals, and dentals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Compassion, empathy, and professionalism in dealing with emotional and stressful situations.
  • Strong teamwork and adaptability, willingness to learn new techniques, and flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary ranging from $120,000 to $180,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k) plan, paid time off, and opportunities for professional growth and development.
