Occupational Therapist Home Care Opportunity

Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist will evaluate and treat patients with physical, emotional, cognitive, and/or psychosocial deficits that impact their ability to perform independent living skills. This role requires a strong assessment and treatment planning skills, as well as the ability to design and implement effective treatment plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patients' ability to safely and effectively perform independent living skills and design the appropriate plan of care.
  • Implement the treatment plan using appropriate modalities and document subjective and objective findings of patient progress.
  • Educate patients and families/caregivers about patient deficits.
  • Direct and supervise the activities of support personnel.
  • Act as a clinical instructor or participate in the education and evaluation of students.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date documentation and files regarding patient condition and effectiveness and timeliness of care and interventions.
  • Participate in ongoing interdisciplinary assessment of assigned patients and participate as a member of the hospice interdisciplinary team when necessary.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Must be a graduate of an Occupational Therapy Program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Current State Licensure as Occupational Therapist (OT).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Valid Ohio Driver's license upon hire; per policy 8-175 thereafter.
  • Proof of automobile insurance coverage with $100,000/$300,000 coverage, upon hire; per policy 8-175 thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a clinical area preferred.
  • Experience working in a homecare environment preferred.
Physical Requirements

The Occupational Therapist must be able to walk without assistive device and maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling. The ability to meet physical demands characterized at the heavy level defined by 1993 Leonard Matheson and Ministry of Labor is also required. Additionally, the Occupational Therapist must be able to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm and leg during therapeutic treatment program, have sensation of touch and manual dexterity to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient pulse, and have visual acuity to observe patient's gross and fine motor movements in order to analyze these movements and to read all patient monitors. The Occupational Therapist must also be able to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families and hear at a conversational level to understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment.
