Medical Laboratory Technician

Cayuga Health System is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by testing and analyzing blood and other body substances.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and test specimens, including proficiency testing and manual procedures, and report appropriately according to protocol
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot moderately complex equipment
  • Utilize moderately complex information systems; collect and interpret data
  • Perform and interpret quality control
  • Maintain a compliant environment, including adherence to all lab and hospital procedures, NYS, TJC, HIPAA standards, infection control and safety guidelines
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities and maintain inter-and intra-departmental work flow by cooperating with others
  • Maintain adequate inventory and conserve resources
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
  • Is flexible in assuming additional responsibilities as assigned
Requirements:
  • Education: Minimum of Associates' degree and Registered as a Medical Technician by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent
  • Licensure: Meets NYS Department of Health requirements and is currently licensed as a Clinical Lab Technician
  • Experience: Prior laboratory experience is preferred
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Problem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred
  • Good written and oral communication skills preferred
  • Requires ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes
Physical Requirements:
  • May require light lifting and carrying, including boxes, equipment, stooping and kneeling, maybe required to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Repetitive use of hands (eg. computer keyboard usage), sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time is often necessary; must be able physically to operate automation used in the job
