Job Summary

An experienced Civil Estimator is required to prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for underground utilities projects. This role involves analyzing project requirements, estimating labor, materials, and equipment costs, and developing detailed bid proposals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough site analyses to identify potential hazards and develop safety protocols
  • Collaborate with the Takeoff Manager and engineers to ensure accurate quantity takeoffs and estimates
  • Mentor junior team members to develop their estimating skills and knowledge
  • Develop a deep understanding of project plans and specifications
  • Solicit quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, maintaining documentation of good faith efforts
  • Prepare preliminary schedules and detailed estimates, assembling information into organized bid packages
  • Work with the operations team to review estimates, alerting them to special conditions and ensuring timely completion
  • Travel to job sites to review construction processes and costs, providing feedback to improve future estimates
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction management, or equivalent experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in estimating, preferably in the underground utilities sector
  • Strong mathematical skills, including basic business math and geometry
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to learn new technologies
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to interface with clients, employees, and agencies
