Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate School Nurse Substitute to join our team at Tippecanoe School Corporation. As a School Nurse Substitute, you will provide healthcare services to students and staff on an as-needed basis, working closely with our Health Services Nursing Supervisor and Assistant Superintendent.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement State-Mandated Health Programs, including First Aid/Emergency Care, Communicable Disease Prevention, Immunizations, Vision Screening, and Hepatitis B, Universal Precautions.
  • Provide health teaching and counseling to students, parents, faculty, and staff, assisting them in making health-related decisions and referring them to appropriate resources.
  • Participate in the TSC Health Education Curriculum, serving as a resource for teachers, students, and parents, and assisting with elementary dental health education and human growth and development education.
  • Supervise and/or administer medication and medical procedures, ensuring compliance with TSC policy and state laws.
  • Participate in Kindergarten Round-Ups, consulting with parents to obtain health history and immunization records, developing health care plans, and consulting with other school team members.
  • Maintain records of care provided to students in the health office, following TSC policies and procedures, and providing information to faculty and parents as needed for continuity of care.
  • Collaborate with community agencies and health professionals, assisting students and parents in identifying and utilizing available resources, and conferring with GLASS, County and State Health Departments, and the Indiana Department of Education as needed.
  • Continues professional education, assuming responsibility for continued personal learning and development for professional competency, and sharing new information with others as appropriate.
  • Assists families and students with special needs, providing health information to assist in the establishment of the student's I.E.P, making recommendations related to health and safety, informing teachers as needed of those students who have chronic or temporary health conditions, and attending case conferences when necessary.
  • Assists in the formation of health policies, goals, and objectives for TSC, and carries out other nursing functions as assigned by the administration.
  • Supervises health assistants in assigned buildings, and uses effective written, verbal, and nonverbal communication, maintaining a professional appearance with grooming and dress according to TSC policy, and maintaining confidentiality of student and staff health information.

Requirements:

  • Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse/Registered Nurse through Indiana State Board of Nursing.
  • CPR certification.
  • Experience and ability to work with children.
  • Good physical and emotional health.
  • Proficient in use of computer, knowledgeable with basic computer software, able to operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull, squat, kneel, and climb.
  • Ability to perform repetitious hand and body movements.
  • Ability to use hands to handle, finger, and feel.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone, and to speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone.
  • Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids; close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus for patient examination.
  • Ability to perceive smells.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry 30 lbs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, push, pull, carry, and/or move patients and equipment weighing up to 100 lbs.
