Environmental Investigator II

The City of Houston is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Investigator II to join our team in the Public Works Department. As an Environmental Investigator II, you will play a critical role in implementing the requirements of the dental amalgam program and the industrial waste survey, ensuring full compliance with the City's approved Pretreatment Program.
Key Responsibilities
• Implement the requirements of the dental amalgam program and the industrial waste survey to ensure compliance with the City's approved Pretreatment Program.
• Conduct field inspections of industrial facilities and dental offices to determine compliance with regulations.
• Review submittals from industries and dental offices, update and maintain compliance tracking software, and prepare clear and concise written reports and enforcement documents.
• Collaborate with facility contacts and coworkers to maintain effective working relationships and ensure quality assurance and quality control.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Health Engineering, or a closely related field.
• One year of pollution/environmental control experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience implementing pretreatment program requirements and dental amalgam program requirements, industrial wastewater treatment, and investigation of industrial users upstream from treatment plants.
• Ability to work effectively independently and as a member of a workgroup, communicate clearly, and maintain effective working relationships with facility contacts and coworkers.
Working Conditions
The position requires working in air contaminated areas, working in and around areas with strong odors or vapors, and performing field work in various weather conditions, including high heat and humidity. The ideal candidate must be willing to work in these conditions and have the ability to lift moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds).
