Cardinal Health is seeking a PRN Staff Pharmacist to join our team at Brodstone Memorial Hospital.
The PRN Staff Pharmacist will work as needed to cover vacation/PTO and upcoming maternity leave. The facility is open Monday-Friday 6:30AM-4:30PM, with shifts lasting 10 hours each.
As a PRN Staff Pharmacist, you will be responsible for adjusting and dispensing medication to patients, driving the compliant and efficient operations of the pharmacy, and verifying physician orders using the pharmacy information system.
You will also supervise Pharmacy Technicians, manage compliance tasks related to accreditation, narcotics control, and inventory management, and provide patient education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify physician orders for medications using the pharmacy information system, checking drug and dose in relation to stated patient issue and addressing automated alerts from the system.
- Supervise Pharmacy Technicians to ensure compliant and efficient operations of the pharmacy, checking all work in line with State Boards of Pharmacy regulations and providing guidance on complex prescriptions, pharmacy automation systems, orders, and other issues.
- Adjust dosages based on established protocols for each drug, ensuring that dosages are appropriate for the patient's condition and in light of other medications the patient is using, and complete clinical tasks related to antimicrobial stewardship.
- Educate patients on the proper use and expected effects of medications, especially when patients are using multiple medications, are beginning new regimens, or are being discharged.
- Manage narcotics and inventory control and compliance, including regular documentation and completion of checklists, and audit outdated medication in states where Pharmacy Technicians are not permitted to do so.
- Contact Nurses and Physicians as necessary to verify orders and obtain additional information regarding the order.
- Assist the Pharmacy Director in maintaining the pharmacy's accreditation and implementing operational changes within the pharmacy, such as the use of new systems or adjustments of standard procedures.
- Licensed, 'good standing' pharmacist in the state of Nebraska or willing to become licensed in the state.
- In-patient hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
- Flexibility to work various shifts.
- IV compounding, specifically chemo, experience preferred.
- Ability to hear, write, and speak clearly in order to communicate with customers and healthcare professionals.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Manual dexterity required for occasional reach, lifting, and holding of small objects.
- Computer savvy to learn and perform successful operation of multiple pharmacy information systems.
- Customer/Vendor credentialing is required (this may include vaccinations). More details will be provided if you are selected for an interview.
- Applies working knowledge in the application of concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to perform varied tasks.
- Works on projects of moderate scope and complexity.
- Identifies possible solutions to a variety of technical problems and takes action to resolve.
- Applies judgment within defined parameters.
- Receives general guidance and may receive more detailed instruction on new projects.
- Work reviewed for sound reasoning and accuracy.
Anticipated hourly range: $48.70 per hour - $69.60 per hour
