The Milwaukee School of Engineering invites applications for a full-time Electronic Resources and Systems Librarian to join its Library team.

Job Description

This position contributes to academic success at MSOE by providing leadership and technical expertise in the management of the library's electronic resources and digital services infrastructure.

Main Responsibilities
  • Serving as a leading role in the development, maintenance, and support of digital resources, assets, services, systems, tools, and objects to ensure effective and seamless discovery/access to the library's services and resources across various systems, platforms, and tools.
  • Providing ongoing technical expertise and troubleshooting support and system administration for a variety of library systems and information technology, including the Discovery service, Proxy server, Link resolver, Integrated library database system, Digital Assets system, Institutional Repository, MSOE content management system, and numerous web-based applications such as Springshare applications.
  • Collaborating with the MSOE IT Department to initiate and coordinate support and administrative activities.
  • Participating in technical strategic planning, including the identification and evaluation of new or emerging systems, information technology, and solutions.
  • As needed, contributing to cross-functional academic success projects and activities.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong understanding of all academic programs and curricula at MSOE.
  • Understanding and using in a professional manner the library's available print, electronic, and other resources and tools, as well as the Internet, for reference and information research.
  • Providing general as well as specialized and advanced reference and information research help to students, faculty, staff, and other customers associated with MSOE, both online and in-person, asynchronous and synchronous.
  • Participating as needed in the library's instructional and information literacy activities, both online and in-person, asynchronous and synchronous.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library/Information Science or equivalent combination of Master's degree and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic library operations, services, and resources.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated effective customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn technical skills, familiarity with Digital Assets (DA) systems, Institutional Repository (IR) systems, and web content management systems, knowledge of web development technology, and experience with Springshare products.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of computer systems and associated software, integrated library database system, the Internet, e-mail, and the Web.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills crucial to providing services to the public and working with others.
Work Environment

This position is primarily performed on-site in a professional office associated with an academic library, with some work occurring throughout the library. On occasion, work may also be required in other locations on the MSOE campus, or in off-campus locations, if necessary.
