A challenging opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator at Akron Children's Hospital. This full-time, 40-hour-per-week position is based primarily in Akron, Ohio, with occasional travel to other locations.

The EHS Coordinator plays a critical role in overseeing EHS programs across ACH facilities in Ohio and Pennsylvania. The primary focus is on ensuring environmental compliance, education, training, and collaboration to implement safe and efficient program implementation.

The goal of this position is to manage environmental permitting, applicable reporting, training, and programs in a safe, effective, and organized manner.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
  • Assess construction projects for EHS and OSHA compliance.
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and training programs.
  • Assist with employee injury investigation and prevention.
  • Coordinate hazardous waste management and spill response.
  • Assist in implementing Hazard Communication Plan and Emergency Planning and Response.
  • Ensure contractors/vendors comply with waste disposal regulations.
  • Respond promptly to EHS emergencies and coordinate clean-up efforts.
  • Oversee hazardous waste and universal waste programs.
  • Lead spill control and prevention training.
  • Conduct routine audits of waste disposal vendors and facilities.
  • Investigate environmental compliance issues and prepare reports.
  • Review facility expansions/modifications for environmental impacts.
  • Train staff on waste disposal procedures and evaluate new chemicals/products.
  • Oversee Underground Storage Tank Inspection Program.
  • Prepare permit applications and regulatory reports.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database program.
  • Maintain DOT and RCRA certifications.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to all levels of the organization.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in environmental science/science discipline, industrial hygiene, chemistry, or related field required.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required; 7 years preferred.
  • DOT and RCRA certifications required.
  • Preferred certifications: CHMM, CSP.
  • Valid driver's license required.

This is a full-time position with an estimated annual salary range of $65,000 - $85,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
