Job Title: Animal Control Officer

Job Summary: This role is responsible for performing various animal control, shelter care, and city code enforcement tasks. The Animal Care/Shelter Attendant will assist the Animal Control Supervisor and cater to the current needs of the shelter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Feed and water animals daily.
  • Ensure all shelter areas are cleaned and disinfected daily, adhering to established disease control procedures.
  • Report any animal health or behavior abnormalities to the supervisor immediately.
  • Collaborate effectively with others.
  • Complete all required paperwork and reports.
  • Wash bedding, towels, and equipment as needed.
  • Restock cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain organized work areas.
  • Respond to service requests or assistance.
  • Investigate animal-related reports or complaints, taking appropriate action.
  • Attend meetings, address questions and complaints, and provide public education on animal control.
  • Practice positive interaction and communication.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with animals and animal behavior.

Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • No felony convictions in Arizona or convictions that would be felonies in Arizona.
  • Good moral character and pass a background check.
  • Ability to work varied hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Occasional travel.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with City, County, and State laws governing animal control enforcement.
  • Understanding of procedures for dealing with the public in a tactful but firm manner.
  • Proficiency in using computers.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions independently.
  • Capacity to clean and maintain an animal shelter.
  • Clear and concise communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare reports and maintain efficient record-keeping systems.
  • Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work with various animal types.

Physical Demands:

Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally. Required physical abilities include balancing, crawling, crouching, handling, listening, kneeling, lifting, pulling, talking, seeing, and walking.

Work Environment:

This role requires working indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
