The Danbury Public Schools is seeking a skilled Healthcare Professional to join our team as a School Nurse. This rewarding position plays a vital role in maintaining the health and educational success of students and the school community.

About the Role

This 10-month position offers a competitive $65,000 - $80,000 per year salary, commensurate with experience and qualifications. As a School Nurse, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive healthcare services to students, including administering medications, conducting vision and hearing screenings, and developing individualized health care plans.

Responsibilities
  • Serves as a member of the school team, collaborating with parents, students, teachers, and other professionals to interpret health and developmental assessments.
  • Maintains accurate records, logs, surveys, and reports in accordance with state regulations and school policies.
  • Supervises compliance with Connecticut State mandated physical examinations and immunization requirements.
  • Coordinates the administration of prescribed medications and treatments for students in school and/or school-sponsored activities.
  • Performs vision, hearing, and postural screenings as per Connecticut State regulations and makes referrals and follow-up on any deviations from normal.
  • Writes individual health care plans (IHCP) for students with special needs and incorporates them into IEP and 504 plans when indicated.
  • Conducts annual in-service trainings for staff on OSHA Blood Borne Pathogens and Infection Control.
  • Remains current with professional development and is knowledgeable of State of Connecticut laws pertaining to immunizations, medication administration, health records, and other health-related issues.
Requirements
  • A valid State of Connecticut RN license to practice professional nursing.
  • BSN preferred but not required.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics and/or community health.
