Rainforest Action Network (RAN) has been at the forefront of environmental activism for over 30 years. Our mission is to preserve forests, protect the climate, and uphold human rights by challenging corporate power and systemic injustice.

The Position

As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for leading our skilled fundraising team in raising an annual budget of approximately $8 million. Our revenues come from four primary sources: major donors, individual contributors, foundations, and special events.

We are seeking a seasoned candidate with a creative and strategic development vision. Your ability to work collaboratively to generate new and innovative ideas will be crucial in driving our fundraising efforts forward.

Fundraising Responsibilities
  • Developing a Comprehensive Fundraising Plan: In partnership with our Digital Director, you will develop and execute a comprehensive strategic fundraising plan that achieves our annual revenue projections and takes into account all revenue streams.
  • Identifying and Soliciting Donors: You will collaborate with our Executive, Leadership, and Development teams, as well as our Board of Directors, to proactively identify, steward, and solicit donations from individual and institutional donors.
  • Building Systems and Organizational Culture: You will build systems and organizational culture to coach staff and Board members on donor engagement across multiple channels, leveraging donors to build power and impact.
  • Overseeing Departmental Budget: You will oversee our Development department's budget in close collaboration with Institutional and Individual Giving budget holders and in coordination with our Digital Director.
Organizational Leadership, Planning, and Staff Management
  • Promoting a Collaborative Culture: You will promote a culture of collaboration, transparency, feedback, and continuous improvement within our organization.
  • Supervising Team Members: You will supervise our Foundations Director and Major Donors & Institutional Giving Manager, overseeing performance evaluations and representing the team at the leadership level.
  • Representing the Organization: You will represent our Development team at the Leadership and Board level, effectively communicating our work and values to external audiences.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Demonstrated Success in Fundraising: You have a proven track record of success in fundraising with individual and institutional donors, growing long-term support for an organization.
  • Leadership Experience: You possess progressively senior-level experience, strong leadership, organizational, and management skills that include coaching and inspiring staff and senior management on fundraising and donor relations.
  • Strategic Thinking: You have the ability to set priorities, balance short-term and long-term objectives, prioritizing the long-term financial health of the organization.
Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $110,000-$112,000, based on your overall experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Additional benefits include full health coverage for you and your partner/family, an employer-funded HSA, vision & dental insurance, pro-rated 4 weeks PTO (increasing to 5 weeks after 2 years), and a Simple IRA retirement plan with a 3% fully vested employer match after the first 6 months. After 5 years, staff are eligible for a 3-month fully-paid sabbatical.
