About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Radar Navigation Systems Engineer to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our Lunar Transportation business unit, you will play a critical role in the development of our Blue Moon lander product lines.

This position reports to the Navigation and Sensors Group in Blue Origin's Lunar Permanence business unit. You will work closely with our Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) team to seamlessly integrate the radar navigation system components with the rest of the GN&C.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate in the development of navigation and sensor hardware requirements from system level specifications with flow downs to subsystem and component levels, and companion verification methods
  • Assist in the design of the radar navigation architecture, hardware configuration with design studies, and execute sensor performance trades
  • Contribute to procurement, vendor coordination, delivery, acceptance, installation, verification, validation, qualification, and certification of the component hardware
  • Perform and guide testing and analyses such as flight test, thermal vacuum test, vibration test, etc. to validate top-level system specifications and requirements, and to establish performance specifications of the sensors
  • Support the development and execution of component-level navigation test programs, including sensor characterization, sensor modeling, and integrated on-vehicle testing
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop testing, on-vehicle functional testing, and flight testing
  • Support the GN&C subsystem technical lead with a cross-functional mindset to facilitate subsystem and system level architectural decisions
Qualifications
  • B.S. in Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in development of spacecraft navigation systems or spacecraft avionics systems
  • Experience with radar electronics, antenna, and front end for deorbit, descent, and landing operations
  • Working knowledge of frequency modulated continuous wave and pulsed Doppler radar
  • Experience in sensor procurement, integration, and test support
  • Experience with radio frequency (L, S, X, K band) navigation sensors and testing environments
  • Demonstrated experience in verification and test of navigation systems
  • Experience in MATLAB/Simulink
Desired Qualifications
  • M.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent with 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with navigation systems that include measurements from IMU, GPS, radar, star trackers, and optical sensors
  • Experience in synthetic aperture radar design and implementation
  • Experience with high altitude and weak signal GPS
  • Experience with software defined radio
  • Detailed knowledge on EEE part selection for a variety of sensors
  • Knowledge in the development of planetary spacecraft navigation
  • Working knowledge of NASA human spaceflight standards
