About the Role: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Professional Mentor to join our team at Friends of the Children-Chicago. As a Friend, you will be paired with eight kindergartners facing significant obstacles and will provide emotional, social, and academic support for 12.5 years. Your role will be to empower these youth to develop the skills and resilience needed to thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop intensive, long-term relationships with children in need
  • Nurture and promote individual strengths, talents, and abilities
  • Assure physical and emotional well-being
  • Teach life and academic skills
  • Provide enrichment activities
  • Model responsible behavior
  • Build relationships with families, teachers, and others involved in each child's life
  • Manage multiple priorities to ensure goals are met in a timely manner

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (preferred), associate degree required
  • At least two years experience working with vulnerable youth
  • Culturally competent and trauma-informed
  • Experience building relationships with parents, families, and teachers
  • Superior scheduling and time management skills
  • Data entry and database management skills
