Job Title: Human Resources Administrator

Massachusetts Institute of Technology seeks a skilled Human Resources Administrator to join its Mechanical Engineering department. The successful candidate will provide expert HR support to faculty and staff, ensuring seamless operations and compliance with federal, state, and local laws.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer HR activities, including appointment administration, recruitment, orientation, performance management, and development.
  • Participate in HR strategic planning and advise faculty/staff on complex HR issues.
  • Develop and implement new policies/procedures in collaboration with departmental leadership.
  • Oversee complex research appointments, visa processing, and visitor/affiliate appointments.
  • Compile data and synthesize findings for reports.
  • Collaborate on managing the annual salary review process for sponsored research staff.
  • Advise managers on job descriptions and classification processes.
  • Provide employee relations guidance and review/approve personnel forms.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least four years' HR generalist experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state employment laws and current HR principles, practices, and trends.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and advanced-level knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with compensation guidelines and salary ranges/bands.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • SPHR or PHR certification.
  • Familiarity with MIT Personnel Policy Manual and human resources guidelines.
