The Seattle Times, a Pulitzer Prize-winning media solutions company, is seeking an experienced editor to lead our Pacific Northwest magazine.
Job OverviewThis is a full-time opportunity for a skilled editor with a passion for storytelling and a strong understanding of the Pacific Northwest culture. As an Associate Editor, you will play a key role in shaping the editorial direction of our magazine and working closely with our team to produce high-quality content.
Key Responsibilities- Edit and produce stories that appear in Pacific NW magazine, in print and online, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and engagement.
- Assign freelance stories and maintain an editorial calendar aligned with the magazine's needs and goals.
- Work with staff writers and freelancers to improve story ideas from conception to publication, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
- Proof pages and compile fixes from other editors and writers to ensure seamless production.
- Collaborate with the magazine editor, designer, and other team members throughout the production process.
- Develop a clear vision for the type of storytelling the magazine aims to achieve, focusing on local, visually driven narratives that resonate with our audience.
- Communicate effectively with the Graphics and Photo departments to ensure cohesive visual storytelling.
- Write occasional magazine stories as assigned, demonstrating versatility and adaptability.
- Foster an inclusive mindset, considering diverse perspectives and experiences in our stories and promoting equitable representation.
- Three or more years of experience in a news operation or equivalent, with a proven track record of editing and producing high-quality content.
- Bachelor's degree or relevant equivalent experience, with a focus on journalism, communications, or a related field.
- Able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Knowledge of libel laws and journalistic ethics, with a commitment to accuracy, fairness, and honesty.
- Cultural competence and familiarity with best practices related to equity and inclusion, with a passion for promoting diversity and representation.
- Excellent grammar and language skills, with the ability to write engaging, concise copy.
- $68,000 - $81,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
