Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Island Wildlife Conservation Coordinator to join our team. This role will be based on our coastal islands in Maine and will involve leading field research programs, supervising field crews, and collaborating with local communities to conserve seabird populations.

Job Summary

The Island Wildlife Conservation Coordinator will assist our Sanctuary Management Team in implementing multiple concurrent seabird studies at seven island field stations. This will involve tasks such as bird trapping, banding, and resighting, as well as conducting seabird diet studies, nest censuses, and monitoring productivity and growth. The successful candidate will also be responsible for setting up and breaking down field camps, procuring groceries and supplies, and transporting people and equipment to islands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of seabird studies at island field stations, including bird trapping, banding, and resighting, as well as conducting seabird diet studies and nest censuses.
  • Supervise and train field crews in essential field and data management skills.
  • Procure groceries and supplies, pack supplies for islands, and transport people and equipment to islands.
  • Set up and break down field camps, including maintenance of field equipment.
  • Assist with the orientation program for new staff and provide essential training to supervisors, research assistants, and volunteers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, conservation biology, wildlife management, or a related field with several years of experience in similar field research programs.
  • Ability to work closely with program staff, cooperators, and volunteers, with strong communication skills.
  • Experience supervising field crews and managing a seabird field program.
  • Valid state driver's license and experience with rowing and safely operating motorboats 12-23 ft. in length.
  • Field experience with seabirds and seabird management in remote environments, including bird banding and trapping experience.
  • Wilderness or primitive camping experience and dedication to wildlife conservation.

Compensation

$20.00/hour
