ZymoChem is a pioneering force driving the transition to a fossil-free future through cutting-edge science. Our platform leverages proprietary carbon conserving microbes to convert renewable feedstocks into high-value materials, minimizing CO2 loss during production.

Recently, we secured $21 million in Series A funding to support the launch of our first high-performance material and advance partnered products to commercial scale. This investment joins existing revenues from partnerships with world-leading companies and government awards, including a $4MM grant from the Department of Energy and a $1.6MM grant from the Department of Defense.

We're looking for a dynamic individual to join our leadership team as Head of Strategic Initiatives. In this role, you'll bridge technical innovations and business growth by collaborating closely with our CEO to shape the company's strategy, aligning business goals with technical development, strategic partnerships, grants, intellectual property management, and investor relations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead value creation at the intersection of technical, business, and strategic initiatives to drive growth and innovation.
  • Leverage fundraising experience to secure resources for strategic projects, including investor relations and grant acquisitions.
  • Cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset to drive business and technical advancements, with IP experience preferred.
  • Work closely with company leadership to shape and implement company objectives.
  • Research and identify grants and funding opportunities that align with our vision and technical innovation.
  • Build and manage key strategic partnerships with industry players, research institutions, and stakeholders to enhance business opportunities.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, venture capitalists, and stakeholders to secure financial backing for our initiatives.
  • Support and enhance communications with investors by providing clear updates on technical progress, strategic initiatives, and business growth opportunities.
  • Assist in managing intellectual property, ensuring alignment with our long-term strategy.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in a scientific field is required; an MBA or equivalent advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least 7 years of industry experience building and executing strategies in a scientific or technical environment.
  • Previous experience in the biotechnology industry and/or fast-paced startup environments is beneficial.
  • Leadership experience, particularly as a founder or senior leader, is highly desirable.
  • Experience in government grant management and working with investors and partners is essential.
  • Demonstrated success in forging strategic partnerships across diverse sectors, driving collaboration and growth.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical and business teams.
  • Adaptability and proactive problem-solving skills are necessary.
  • A willingness to travel up to 40% of the time is required.
