Job Summary: We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Transportation Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our transportation staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe transportation of preschool-aged children to and from Head Start Centers.

About the Role: As a Transportation Specialist, you will work primarily on school buses to transport children, manage their transition between the bus and center staff members, and maintain a safe environment for all passengers and bystanders at all times. You may also be assigned to act as a second adult on a bus or drive a bus, depending on your qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Safety First: Act in accordance with established policies and protocols to prioritize the safety of vehicle occupants at all times.
  2. Child Safety and Well-being: Ensure that children in our care are only released to authorized individuals, as noted on individual child records.
  3. Bus Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and general maintenance of the bus to ensure it remains in good working condition.
  4. Head Start Procedures: Implement relevant procedures, including transitioning children from one place to another.
  5. Communication and Rapport Building: Develop positive relationships with parents/guardians and other staff members by acting professionally and using constructive communication.
  6. Discipline and Order: Use positive methods to maintain order on the bus.
  7. Education and Engagement: Participate in educational activities with children during bus routes.
  8. Attendance and Communication: Notify supervisors in advance if unable to work and assist in obtaining alternate personnel during absences.

Requirements:

  • Certifications and Qualifications: Possess a valid CDL (Class C or B) with P and S endorsements, and a satisfactory review of Criminal History Check and DHHS Clearance.
  • Physical Demands: Be capable of lifting small children (approximately 50lbs) if necessary, and pass a physical examination and tuberculosis test.
  • Driver's License: Hold a valid Driver's License.
  • Training and Experience: Have a high school diploma or equivalent, knowledge of area roads, and experience transporting children.

Salary Information: The estimated salary range for this position is $13.94-$16.47 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
