Air Force Flight Surgeon Role Overview

The U.S. Air Force seeks highly skilled Aeromedical Physician Specialists to serve as medical officers responsible for the healthcare and medical readiness of aircrew and support personnel.

Job Description

This position combines traditional clinical medicine with aerospace medicine, emphasizing the unique physiological and psychological challenges of aviation and space environments.

  • Provide primary medical care, preventive health assessments, and emergency medical response
  • Advise commanders on medical standards, human factors, and safety protocols to enhance mission effectiveness
  • Participate in flight duties to understand aircrew conditions and maintain currency in aviation medicine standards
Key Responsibilities

Medical Care: Provide comprehensive medical services to aircrew and support personnel, including routine check-ups, vaccinations, and emergency care.

Preventive Health Assessments: Conduct regular health assessments to identify potential health risks and provide recommendations for mitigation.

Emergency Medical Response: Respond to medical emergencies, providing critical care and stabilizing patients until they can receive further treatment.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must possess a strong foundation in both clinical medicine and aerospace medicine.

Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited institution.

Experience: At least 2 years of experience in a related field, such as emergency medicine or aerospace medicine.

Certifications: Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
