Aquatic Development Director

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Aquatic Development Director to join our team at Highlands Recreation District. This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where you can foster a positive and supportive swim team environment.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing the fundamentals of competitive swimming, ensuring a constructive and encouraging atmosphere, and providing effective guidance during training sessions. You will also oversee all facets of swim team development, including recruitment, administration, and instruction supervision of students across all ages and skill levels within the program.

Responsibilities
  • Program Development: Plan and develop a competitive swim program that aligns with the district's goals and objectives.
  • Swimmer Support: Assist swimmers in registering for swim meets and provide guidance on how to prepare for competitions.
  • Meet Attendance: Attend swim meets as needed to support our swimmers and demonstrate Highland's commitment to aquatic excellence.
  • Workout Planning: Develop engaging and appropriate level workouts that cater to the diverse needs of our swimmers.
  • Team Management: Develop and maintain relationships with swimmers and their families, while fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Communication: Develop and communicate team vision and goals, ensuring everyone is aligned and working towards the same objectives.
  • Safety and Supervision: Maintain supervision of the swim team at all times, adhering to pool rules and regulations.
  • Administrative Tasks: Perform administrative duties for the team, including maintaining attendance records, logs, and managing the Team Unify website and database.
  • Financial Management: Monitor and track all payments, ensuring accurate and timely financial management.
  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergencies, performing rescues and administering first aid/CPR as necessary.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training: Current certification in lifeguarding techniques.
  • Coaching Experience: Prior experience in coaching or competitive swimming.
  • First Aid and CPR: Ability to perform rescues, give CPR, and administer first aid as required.
  • Teaching Skills: Ability to teach all four competitive strokes and provide in-water instruction.
  • Travel: Ability to travel locally to swim meets, representing Highland's swim team.
  • Feedback and Instruction: Ability to provide constructive feedback and instruction to swimmers at various skill levels.
  • Pool Knowledge: Familiarity with pool rules and practices.
  • Reliability and Punctuality: Ability to be reliable, punctual, approachable, and dedicated to the Dolphins swim team.
Qualifications

You must possess:

  • High School Diploma: Equivalent education; additional education is preferred.
  • Certificates: Current American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and USA Swimming Coach certifications.
Physical Demands

This role requires:

  • Visual and Auditory Skills: Adequate visual and auditory skills to observe and respond to critical incidents.
  • Physical Capability: Physical capability to act swiftly in emergency situations.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift or carry objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Environmental Factors: Work in an outdoor aquatic environment with wet and/or slippery surfaces, potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, sunlight, and inclement weather.
