We are seeking a highly skilled Pest Control Specialist to join our team at Pinellas County FL.

This is a skilled entry-level technical position involving chemical and other eradication methods for surveillance and abatement of mosquitoes, weeds, aquatic weeds, and invasive plant and pest control.

The primary duties of this role include applying chemicals, following approved techniques, to maintain effective control of pests, undesirable vegetation, and prevent damage to adjacent vegetation or harm to animal or marine life.

Duties also include performing maintenance associated with spraying activities, instructing or leading employees assigned to assist in overall spray or other departmental operations, and may include working on weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities
  • Work outdoors most of the workday, performing physical labor, exposure to elements (heat, rain), and encountering wildlife (snakes, alligators).
  • Operate chemical spray equipment using proper abatement techniques.
  • Perform chemical/mechanical control of mosquitoes through all life stages.
  • Determine the appropriate time and schedule for spraying based on larval stage and species, water condition, weather conditions, wind, and other variables.
  • Select and mix appropriate chemical agents considering infestation, environment, and vegetation.
  • Operate and maintain equipment used in chemical treatment operations, including trucks, boats, motors, and various types of spray apparatus.
  • Coordinate the activities of volunteer personnel as needed within the section or department.
Requirements
  • Possession of prerequisite job task-related licenses or credentials, if any, plus 1-year experience in weed and/or pest control spraying or abatement, industrial or commercial chemical spraying; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Possession of a valid State of Florida Driver's License upon hire, with eligibility based on evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.
  • As a condition of employment, the selected candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Florida Public Health Pest Control license within 1 year of hire date, obtain and maintain a MOT certification within 1 year of hire date, and obtain and maintain a Florida Public or Commercial Restricted Use Pesticides Applicator's license with certification in Aquatic Weed Control within 2 years of hire date.
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules, including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations, including but not limited to working during or immediately after hurricanes, and work overtime if needed for storms, mosquito outbreaks, and out-of-the-ordinary circumstances.
  • Routine weekend and holiday work may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possession and maintenance of Core, Aquatics, and Public Health Licenses.
  • Experience calibrating spray equipment.
  • Possession of MOT certification.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this position is $50,000-$70,000 per year, depending on experience.
