Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medicaid Recovery Officer to join our team in the Bureau of Financial Operations. As a Medicaid Recovery Officer, you will play a critical role in recovering correctly paid medical assistance costs from the estates of qualifying Medicaid recipients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine appropriate collection techniques for recovery of Medicaid funds from sources other than private insurance carriers.
  • Audit records of Medicaid and third-party payments and medical treatment to determine the extent of medical obligation.
  • Contact obligers to solicit voluntary payment of medical obligations.
  • Identify deceased Medicaid recipients over age 55 and any estate resources for recovery of Medicaid funds.
  • File and follow up on claims against estates.
  • Obtain information from estate representatives, courts, and Department records.
  • Analyze cases to determine cost-effectiveness of recovery effort.
  • Negotiate repayments with obligers and confer with legal counsel in collection and enforcement of court orders.
  • Maintain case records and documentation.
Requirements
  • Some knowledge of case collection management and control methods.
  • Experience using legal documents to obtain judgments, execute liens, release confidential information, and initiate legal action; interviewing to elicit sensitive information; contacting others by telephone to request payment on accounts; applying laws, regulations, and policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with legal and financial documents, and solicitation of confidential information.
  • Experience working with real estate transaction documents, liens, and valuations.
  • Experience in estate planning, probate, or elder law.
  • Experience performing computerized records research in multiple proprietary and commercial systems.
