Job Title: Occupational Therapist

We are seeking a skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team at the Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center. As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing evidence-based therapeutic interventions to adults living with mental health conditions who are undergoing forensic evaluation.

Job Summary:

The selected candidate will provide skilled occupational therapy interventions within group and individual settings using evidence-based approaches that address the individualized treatment goals of each person served. Duties will include active engagement in the initiative to minimize seclusion and restraint through sensory integration techniques and other therapeutic approaches as indicated.

Responsibilities:
  • Utilize current occupational therapy evaluations as well as DSCFMHC OT Functional Assessment to identify person's current level of functioning and person's goal towards recovery.
  • Develop and implement interventions in group and 1:1 setting to develop and/or improve client factors identified at evaluation.
  • Provide ongoing input into initial and subsequent Treatment Plans and updates rehab goals and interventions.
  • Counsel patients and family when clinically indicated regarding progress, goals, and plans as requested.
  • Participate in ongoing staff and patient orientation to OT Services as indicated.
  • Maintain records of patient attendance, equipment/interventions used, response to treatment, and adaptations to treatment in relation to treatment goals.
Requirements:
  • Possession of a current and valid Occupational Therapist License issued by the Board of Allied Health Professions.
  • Ability to understand, explain, and apply the policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing assigned unit activities.
  • Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of occupational therapy data, to draw conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to administer specialty occupational therapy assessments, synthesize report of the findings, and provide recommendations based on the results as indicated.
  • Knowledge of group dynamics and group facilitation when providing activity-based and psycho-educational groups with adults exhibiting signs and symptoms of mental illness.
Working Conditions:

Occupational Therapists may work in psychiatric treatment settings with individuals living with emotional distress, mental health conditions, and/or intellectual disabilities as well as with people within the correctional system.
