About the Role
We are seeking an extraordinary Research Engineer to join our Camera Algorithm team. As a member of this team, you will be responsible for developing novel ways to improve image and video quality of Apple's camera systems. You will research and develop next-generation image capture, processing, and rendering algorithms to be used across all Apple product cameras.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and Development: Develop novel tone mapping algorithms to craft the creative look of videos captured with Apple cameras.
- Algorithm Development: Drive algorithm development across all stages of the cycle, from initial idea and proof of concept work through on-device implementation, field testing, validation, and refinement.
- Collaboration: Work closely with hardware design teams to develop new image processing blocks improving image quality.
- Artistic Look and Feel: Influence the artistic look of Apple cameras across different product categories, including phones, portables, tablets, video, and still capture, playback.
- Feature Proposal Development: Define and develop feature proposals for different use cases targeting consumer and professional markets.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Skills: Validated coding skills in Matlab or Python and a track record of developing image processing algorithms.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with digital camera image processing pipelines and image quality metrics, along with knowledge of HDR encoding standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Skills: Programming skills in C/C++, exposure to machine learning algorithms, and a passion for photography and videography.
- Knowledge: Understanding of vision science and/or color science, along with prior experience with professional video content postproduction and color grading workflows.
