Job Summary:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse at UNC Health Care, you will provide direct patient care within the scope of practice for the Licensed Practical Nurse. This role involves processing privileged patient health information, processing physician orders, returning patient calls, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate competence in patient care skills within the scope of practice for the Licensed Practical Nurse to include assisting with exams and procedures, administering medications, reinforcing patient education, and other procedures as directed by the RN or physician.
  • Document care provided in the patient's medical record.
  • Process orders, return patient calls, and notify patients of diagnostic results as directed by the physician.
  • Assist with the maintenance of adequate supplies, and perform and document medical equipment safety checks.
  • Maintain compliance with established safety and regulatory guidelines, including HIPAA, OSHA, and infection prevention policies and procedures.
  • Participate in unit performance improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate good customer service skills when interacting with patients, families, and visitors. Exhibit effective communication skills and teamwork.

Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited practical nursing program.
  • BCLS and LPN NC LIC licensure.
  • Previous orthopedic physician office experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
