Job Summary:


Surgical Technologists are integral members of the healthcare team, playing a vital role in the surgical process. As a Surgical Technologist at Northwell Health, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, collaborating with experienced professionals to deliver exceptional patient care.


Responsibilities:



  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the operating room, ensuring a safe and efficient environment for surgical procedures.
  • Function as a scrub assistant, scrubbing hands and arms, donning gown and gloves, and setting up operating room trays with instruments, sponges, catheters, drains, and dressings.
  • Pass and count instruments and sponges, dressings, and other materials during surgery, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Assist with the preparation of patients for surgery, ensuring a surgically sterile field.
  • Operate lights, tables, suction machines, cautery, and other equipment during surgical procedures.
  • Dispose of soiled linens, gloves, and debris, and sterilize instruments according to terminal technique.
  • Perform related duties, such as transporting patients and maintaining records.
  • Participate in the care and maintenance of instrumentation and equipment.
  • Assist with orientation of new staff members to the scrub position.

Requirements:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • AAS Degree in Operating Room Technology, preferred.
  • Certification by the Association of Operating Room Technicians, required.
  • Successful completion of a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists and holds a certified surgical technologist (CST) credential.
