Job Summary
We're seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist Lead to join our Credit Analysis Tools team within US Card Data Science. As part of this role, you'll work with our cross-functional team to develop cutting-edge software for financial analysis that informs lending decisions for over 100 million Capital One customers. Your expertise will be instrumental in creating generative AI-based solutions for data analysis, code generation, document synthesis, and recommendation.

Key Responsibilities
This is a leadership role that requires strong technical skills, business acumen, and interpersonal abilities. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Partnering with a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, business analysts, and product managers to deliver innovative products that meet customer needs
  • Fine-tuning and customizing large language models across text and vision modalities for use in financial data analysis
  • Managing large-scale data annotation projects by guiding business analysts to curate high-quality datasets, driving improvements to data collection processes, and delivering model enhancements
  • Collaborating with software engineers to develop, deploy, optimize, and maintain data and model pipelines
  • Leveraging a broad stack of technologies, including Python, PyTorch, Hugging Face, Dask, LangChain, and more, to uncover insights hidden within vast volumes of numeric and textual data
  • Flexing your interpersonal skills to translate complex technical concepts into tangible business outcomes

Requirements
To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Innovative thinking, staying current on emerging technologies, and applying them to drive business value
  • Strong statistical knowledge, experience building models, validating them, and interpreting results, including clustering, classification, sentiment analysis, time series, and deep learning
  • Technical expertise in open-source languages, cloud computing platforms, and a good understanding of generative AI concepts, including language models, neural networks, and transformers
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build customer-focused experiences that address their needs and deliver ethical business value

Qualifications
You'll need to have at least 2 years' experience in open-source programming languages for large-scale data analysis, as well as 2 years' experience with machine learning, relational databases, and Python for large-scale data analysis and software engineering. A PhD in a STEM field or non-STEM but AI-adjacent field plus 3 years' experience in data analytics is also preferred.

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $201,400 - $229,900 in New York City, and may vary based on location.
