Job Description and Duties

As a Conservationist I with the CA Conservation Corps, you will be responsible for supervising Corpsmembers during work hours in various grade and fire camp settings. Your primary goal will be to maintain general order and discipline, while promoting Corpsmember self-discipline and an awareness of others. You will train Corpsmembers in the basics of project and fire crew work, ensuring proper management and control of the work area to encourage and maintain proper working conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise Corpsmembers during work hours in various grade and fire camp settings.
  • Maintain general order and discipline, while promoting Corpsmember self-discipline and an awareness of others.
  • Train Corpsmembers in the basics of project and fire crew work.
  • Ensure proper management and control of the work area to encourage and maintain proper working conditions.

Working Conditions

This position requires working in multiple environments, with a routine work schedule and occasional extended working hours on emergencies and special projects. You will be required to lift objects weighing 50 pounds or more, often in combination with pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, squatting, grabbing, carrying, kneeling, twisting, and reaching at or above shoulder level. You will also be required to work in extreme temperatures, humidity, and physical conditions. This position requires successful completion of the CALFIRE Type I fire training program.

Requirements
  • Pass a background investigation and fingerprinting.
  • Pass a medical exam.
  • Hold a Commercial Class C license with a Passenger Transport Vehicle special endorsement.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Complete the CALFIRE Type I fire training program.
