Job Summary

Hannaford Supermarkets is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Meat Market Manager Trainee to join our team. As a key member of our meat department, you will be responsible for ensuring exceptional customer service, maintaining high-quality products, and driving sales growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform Meat Cutter functions as necessary, ensuring accurate and efficient processing of meat products.
  • Provide recognition of accomplishments and offer constructive counseling when necessary, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Treat all co-workers with fairness, dignity, and respect, promoting a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Ensure department associates are properly trained by certified trainers, maintaining high standards of product knowledge and customer service.
  • Develop product knowledge in all areas of the Meat department, including fresh beef items, pork and chicken, all natural products, and process meat items.
  • Conduct performance appraisals on all department associates according to company standards, providing constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Maintain effective work schedules to meet production and customer service standards, ensuring seamless operations and high-quality products.
  • Understand and use company tools such as MPP, financial reports, scheduling, ordering, and BIG, driving business growth and efficiency.
  • Ensure operational and merchandising standard practices are followed to maximize profitability, paying special attention to priority categories and philosophy meat case plan-o-grams.
  • Maintain solid communication in the department and throughout the organization, promoting a culture of transparency and collaboration.
  • Observe and ensure compliance with company sanitation, safety, and food safety standards, maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Understand the causes and means for resolving and limiting shrink, driving business growth and profitability.
  • Have total understanding of the department's standard practice manual and Program Manuals for each Meat program, ensuring compliance and best practices.
Requirements
  • A high school graduate or equivalent preferred, with a strong understanding of store operations and merchandising techniques.
  • Effective communication, customer service, and selling skills, with the ability to lead and manage a team.
  • Effective interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to use technical information to solve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job, with a strong desire to lead and manage a team.
  • Ability to use technical information to solve problems, with a strong understanding of company tools and systems.
  • Must be accredited by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals or similar accrediting organization as a "Certified Food Safety Manager" or will be required to attend company provided training and have the ability to achieve accreditation within the first 90 days of employment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to use computers and other technical systems required to perform the job functions.
  • Lift cases or packages of meat weighing 1-40 lb. Frequently and 100 lb. on occasion, with the ability to stand or walk up to 100% of the time while working in temperatures of 45 degrees F.
  • Perform repetitive grasping, twisting, reaching, and hand/arm motions as the product is identified, wrapped, priced, and weighed.
  • Be able to handle a variety of substances associated with cleaning materials, packaging materials, and meat products.
  • Frequent bending, with the ability to meet established volume activity standards.

  • Supervise performance of all duties and responsibilities of all Meat associates as assigned, with a strong focus on leadership and management.
  • Role model outstanding friendly customer service, with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Use good judgment in the delegation, assignment, and follow-up required for the efficient performance of the department, with a strong focus on productivity and efficiency.
  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate records of production, shrink, sales, and inventory, with a strong focus on data analysis and reporting.
