Poolside Educator

The YMCA of Greater Monmouth County is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

This part-time position as a Poolside Educator supports the work of the Y by teaching swimming lessons and promoting member safety and engagement. The ideal candidate will be responsible for direct supervision, teaching, curriculum, and class management of group swim lessons while maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the pool deck, and surrounding areas.

• Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
• Builds effective relationships with students and parents; encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth, completes required abuse risk management training, and follows mandated abuse reporting procedures.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules, referring students and parents to other programs as necessary.
• Maintains records as required (attendance, progress reports, etc.).
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.

• Minimum age of 16.
• Certifications: Professional Rescuer CPR, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen within 3 months.
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent within 6 months.
• Previous recreational or competitive swimming experience is a plus.

This part-time position offers a competitive hourly rate of $18-$22 per hour, depending on experience. Additionally, employees receive free YMCA membership and are eligible for benefits such as health insurance and paid time off.

This position requires working in a fast-paced aquatic environment with varying temperatures and humidity levels. The ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods is also required.
