Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at The University of Chicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our respiratory care team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide respiratory care to patients of all ages, from neonatal to adult, utilizing concepts of respiratory care practices.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians and nursing staff to assess, implement, and perform respiratory care procedures.
  • Coordinate and perform direct respiratory care for patients, ensuring timely and satisfactory completion of patient assignments.
  • Exhibit a high level of productivity and efficient operation of the department, meeting established standards.
  • Explain procedures and protocols to patients and family members, maintaining a one-on-one relationship with patients during the course of care.
  • Follow proper identification procedures prior to giving care, reading prescriptions prepared by physicians to determine indications for treatment.
  • Notify nurse or physician of any adverse reaction, instructing patients in proper breathing techniques.
  • Maintain accurate information in patients' charts and department records at all times.
  • Competent in radial and capillary blood gas punctures and proficient in blood gas interpretation.
  • Utilize all monitoring and diagnostic equipment by following established procedures.
Requirements
  • Completion of an AMA-approved RRT program.
  • Basic Life Support Certification through The American Heart Association.
  • Must achieve RRT credential from The National Board for Respiratory Care within 6 months of hire.
  • Copy of academic diploma or transcript.
  • Therapist must have NBRC RRT credentials to be trained for critical care.
