Job Summary:

The GI Reprocessing Technician is responsible for the manual cleaning and reprocessing of GI and Pulmonary endoscopes, equipment, and accessories. This role also involves monitoring preventative maintenance for automatic endoscope reprocessors and maintaining adequate reprocessing supplies for the department.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Performs manual cleaning and reprocessing of 14 different types of GI endoscopes and 2 different types of Pulmonary bronchoscopes, equipment, and accessories.
  • Routinely inspects all equipment and reusable items, taking those needing repair out of service and completing appropriate processing for repair.
  • Works with high-level disinfectants and cleaning solutions, reading and interpreting appropriate MSDS and manufacturers' instructions.
  • Maintains and demonstrates proper use and disposal of gluteraldehyde products for reprocessing purposes.
  • Follows mandatory safety precautions to prevent harm from chemicals used for reprocessing.
  • Maintains quality control by monitoring, reading, documenting, and interpreting all parameters for reprocessers to ensure proper function.
  • Disposes of all biohazard products per departmental procedures.
  • Performs correct and appropriate data entry, understands and utilizes computers for generating data and requisitioning goods.
  • Maintains system and department competencies by attending department meetings, in-services, and annual updates.
  • Precepts and trains new employees to the position.
  • Demonstrates accountability by providing high-quality customer service, through communication and service to the GI staff and other departments.
  • Reviews and follows departmental policies and procedures by reviewing the manuals.
  • Orders and puts away supplies and linens as needed.
  • Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • One year of experience working in healthcare.
  • Desired: Post High School education in a specialized field, such as an accredited Operating Room Technician or Central Service Technician program, and six months of experience in central supply or surgical/procedural area.

License and Certifications:

  • Desired: Certified Central Service Tech (CRCST).
