Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Paralegal to join our team at the Institute for Justice, a leading organization in promoting liberty. The ideal candidate will have 3 or more years of paralegal experience, with a proven track record of success in conducting legal research, preparing documents, and communicating effectively with attorneys and peers.

About the Role

This is a hybrid position that offers flexible work hours and a casual dress code. Our Arlington, VA headquarters provides a collaborative and dynamic work environment, and this role will also be open in our other state offices, including Austin, Texas, Phoenix, Arizona, Miami, Florida, and Seattle, Washington.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct basic legal research to support attorneys in cases with immediate real-world impact.
  • Prepare tables of contents and authorities for legal briefs, as well as prepare affidavits for clients and expert witnesses.
  • Maintain paper and electronic case files, and ensure compliance with court rules and regulations.
  • Draft correspondence to courts and other attorneys, and calculate, calendar, and track due dates for hearings and/or briefs.
  • Read and interpret court rules, determine compliance for filings, and manage pretrial preparation and assist during trials.
  • Communicate and work on cases with attorneys and peers in other offices, and take notes at moot courts.

Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of paralegal experience, with a focus on litigation support.
  • Creativity, detailed-oriented, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
