Job Overview

The City of Chicago's Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled Civil Engineer to lead senior-level professional civil engineering duties, overseeing tasks related to the construction of moderate to complex infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct field surveys to collect data for planned improvements and identify conditions impacting proposed construction, repair, and maintenance projects, recommending modifications as needed.
  • Prepare and review engineering designs, drawings, calculations, specifications, and cost estimates for infrastructure construction, maintenance, and repair projects.
  • Draft preliminary specifications and estimates for labor, material, and equipment costs for projects such as streets, water, sewer, bridges, and related systems and facilities.
  • Serve as resident engineer at large maintenance and construction project sites, monitoring construction methods, inspecting materials, and ensuring work completion according to contract specifications and project timelines.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a directly related field of engineering, supplemented by two years of progressively responsible Civil Engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • A valid State of Illinois driver's license may be required for some positions.
Benefits:
