Job Description: Export/Import Compliance Specialist

The Export/Import Compliance Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring our international trade activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and best practices. This position reports directly to the Director, Customer Experience.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all aspects of export/import regulatory compliance, including ECCN product classifications, harmonized tariff classifications, country of origin determination, TRAX Compliance screening, obtaining and reviewing end-use statements for exports, Electronic Export Information (EEI) filings, and sanctioned party list screening.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders, such as customers, subsidiaries, distributors, vendors, brokers, and carriers, to ensure compliance with import/export regulations.
  • Maintain an internal controls program to guarantee compliance with federal and foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported/exported products.
  • Determine product eligibility for multiple trade agreements.
  • Participate in the continual improvement process related to the Compliance Program and manage document revisions of internal controls and procedures.
  • Take part in compliance audits and implement necessary corrective actions.
  • Collaborate closely with Accounting, Legal, Claims, Sales, Receiving & Shipping, and Purchasing teams.
  • Stay informed about production and other factors affecting scheduling and delivery of orders.
  • Foster an environment that promotes AFS's goals, values, and operating modes, encouraging continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as required, including occasional backup support of CS activities.
  • Aid in personal development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
  • Plan daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description, and supervisor's instruction to maximize personal output.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or two to four years of related experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five to seven years of related Import/Export compliance and regulation experience.

  • Demonstrate good organizational skills and follow-up techniques.
  • Show ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic math requirements, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Excellent customer relations skills.
  • Ability to work independently much of the time, as well as in a team environment.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Demonstrate responsibility, respect, dependability, patience, and productivity to create a positive work environment.
  • Show teamwork while providing support and leadership.
  • Must be available, approachable, and represent the company in a positive manner at all times.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and maintain composure and a professional approach when dealing with others.

Travel:

  • 10-15% Domestic.

We offer a competitive salary of $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits and opportunities for career advancement.
