Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Early Intervention Paraprofessional to join our team at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. As a key member of our special education team, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and therapeutic needs of our students.

Responsibilities
  1. Assist students with daily living skills, such as toileting, dressing, and feeding, as needed.
  2. Provide one-on-one support to students in the classroom, including assistance with academic tasks, behavioral interventions, and social skills development.
  3. Assist teachers and therapists with lesson planning, implementation, and data collection.
  4. Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment, including cleaning, sanitizing, and restocking materials.
  5. Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents through verbal and written correspondence.
  6. Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  7. Collaborate with the educational team to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavioral intervention plans (BIPs).
  8. Assist with data collection and record-keeping, including tracking student progress and maintaining accurate records.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned by the teacher and/or administration.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An associate degree or equivalent number of college credits.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with children with special needs, preferably in a preschool or early intervention setting.
  • Training in crisis intervention, CPR, and First Aid is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and maintain a high level of organization.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to:

  • Stand, sit, and move around the classroom and school building.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Walk up and down stairs, and run to implement services as needed.
  • Speak clearly and distinctly, and hear clearly in a noisy environment.
  • Adequately see and perform duties in a variety of lighting conditions.
