Job Summary

The Director of Medical Staff Services Full-Time is responsible for overseeing the strategic oversight and operational performance of clinically effective and efficient systems of care and service within the continuum of care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assumes leadership responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of systems of care and service.
  • Adheres to professional standards and regulations.
  • Selects employees and promotes development through performance evaluation and identification of mutual goals.
  • Utilizes transformational leadership to develop goals and objectives consistent with organizational mission and philosophy.
  • Assesses impact of plans and strategies to address issues such as ethnic, cultural, and diversity changes in population.
  • Guides strategic planning within service line and participates in strategic planning at the service line/facility and system level.
  • Works cooperatively with other disciplines and serves as a liaison with other departments for problem solving and relationship building.
  • Provides nurses with an environment that supports their professional practice, health, and well-being.
  • Manages people and resources to ensure safe and efficient patient care operations.
  • Leads the development and implementation of approaches to attain top decile performance on all quality and patient satisfaction metrics.
  • Maintains and improves the department or unit's quality of care and patient experience.
  • Establishes, implements, and monitors the unit or service area's capital and operating budget to achieve defined targets.

The Department of Ambulatory Services at Barnes-Jewish Hospital consists of the multidisciplinary staff of BJH Ambulatory Services, including responsibility for the GI Labs, Minor Procedure Center, Pain Management Center, Diabetes Center, Resident Clinics, Wound/Ostomy Center, and other services as assigned.

The Director of Ambulatory Services Patient Care is responsible for directing staff and programs in the Ambulatory Services department and providing leadership and oversight to Ambulatory Clinical Managers.

Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: onboarding and hiring, training, workload management & performance evaluations, conducting professional development plans as needed.

Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.

Responsible for developing and maintaining effective relationships with Medical Directors and WUSM leaders while establishing dyad models of care.

Responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, quality care in all Ambulatory clinical areas by maintaining appropriate staffing models and staffing ratios and internal controls that impact regulatory compliance.

Effectively coach employees toward improved performance. Address problems by providing timely performance feedback on an ongoing basis. Monitor key performance indicators and quality metrics, and identify nursing-sensitive indicators for ambulatory services.
