Job Summary

As a Neurodiagnostic Technologist I at Advocate Aurora Health, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care by performing and maintaining competency in various neurodiagnostic procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs and maintains competency in electroencephalograms, portable inpatient EEG's, ambulatory EEG monitoring, EEG monitoring during intracarotid Sodium Amytal procedures, Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMUs) and Evoke Potentials by applying suitable electrodes on predetermined positions on the patient's head, checking the performance of the electrodes, calibrating and adjusting the test apparatus and selecting both predetermined and special electrode combinations dependent on the individual case under study.

• Prepares patient for exam and performs exams and procedures.

• Gathers a comprehensive patient history, appropriate information from patient, patient's records and family members to include neurological symptomatology and medications.

• Explains test procedures to patient and family members.

• Performs procedures according to the laboratory standards and implements alternative methods and/or adjusts controls to obtain optimal recordings.

• Recognizes patient or environmental artifact. Documents, eliminates or takes proper measure to monitor the artifact.

• Troubleshoots equipment problems and repairs or reports to supervisor immediately.

• Performs clerical duties as required including scheduling of procedures, archiving of studies and charge entry.

• Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.

Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.

• High School Graduate.

• Typically requires 1 year of experience in neurodiagnostics or similar direct patient care.

Working Conditions

• Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.

• Must sit, stand, walk, twist, and lift throughout the workday.

• Work environment may contain potential for exposure to blood and body fluids or other unpleasant fumes or hazards and, therefore, must have ability to work in that type of environment and wear protective clothing as necessary.
