Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Administrative Professional HR Specialist to support our government customer in Hyattsville, MD. As an integral member of the Human Resources team, you will be responsible for providing administrative support to the HR department, including maintaining accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.
  • Provide administrative support to the HR department, including answering frequently asked questions from applicants and employees, referring more complex questions to senior-level HR staff or management, and maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
  • Assist with payroll functions, including processing, answering employee questions, fixing processing errors, and distributing checks.
  • Support the planning and execution of special events, such as benefits enrollment, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations.
  • Facilitate the Department's hire orientation.
  • Support the Human Resources Manager in the management and timely completion of all HR tasks.
  • Assist with reviewing and processing personnel actions, including employee assistance program referrals, detail requests, unemployment claims, verifications of employment, and Maryland public information act request processing.
  • Maintain position alignment information in the automated Human Resources Management/Payroll System.
  • Analyze and validate authorized personnel actions to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Perform corrections in a timely manner to ensure system information is accurate.
  • Inform management of problems and recommend appropriate action.
  • Assist in the management of County employee orientations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business/Public Administration, Organizational Development, Human Resources/Personnel Management, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of professional-level experience in Human Resources Management.
  • Strong written, public speaking, and communication skills.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to make sound decisions independently.
  • A life-long learner with a positive, proactive, thoughtful, empathetic, organized, and action-oriented style.
  • Ability to show initiative and work independently.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with candidates/employees and work with team members from diverse experiences.
  • Ability to adjust to changing environments and situations.
  • Knowledge of HR/People practices and processes required.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to excel in a team environment.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.

Estimated Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 per year
