Job Overview:

As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Adult Psych Unit, you will provide specialized care to patients with acute and chronic mental health conditions. Your role involves offering therapeutic support, ensuring safety, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to stabilize and improve patients' psychiatric conditions.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' mental and physical health, including monitoring behavioral changes, administering medications, and evaluating patients' responses to treatment.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, and other mental health professionals to develop individualized care plans, setting appropriate goals for treatment.
  • Implement interventions to de-escalate crises, provide emotional support, and reinforce positive behaviors. Utilize therapeutic communication techniques to foster a supportive environment.
  • Administer psychiatric medications and monitor for side effects or adverse reactions, ensuring adherence to prescribed regimens.
  • Ensure the safety of patients and staff by monitoring for signs of agitation or potential harm, intervening appropriately to prevent self-harm or harm to others.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including assessments, treatments, progress notes, and discharge planning.
  • Provide education to patients and families on mental health conditions, treatment options, and strategies for managing symptoms.
  • Respond to psychiatric emergencies with prompt, decisive action, working with the team to stabilize patients in acute distress.
  • Work closely with the interdisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and case managers, to deliver holistic care.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of aftercare for patients transitioning out of inpatient care, ensuring continuity of care in the community.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred).
  • Active RN license in Oklahoma.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Previous experience in a psychiatric or behavioral health setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, empathy, patience, and the ability to work effectively in high-stress situations. Crisis management and de-escalation skills are crucial.
