Job Summary

This position is located at one of the Service Unit Hospitals or clinics under the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, in the Division of Public Health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design program plans to mobilize community partnerships and resources for a plan of action to address emerging infectious and communicable diseases and problems.
  • Conduct and participate in community assessment to define interventions by identifying subpopulations at risk for disease and/or disability.
  • Implement a surveillance method for community health trends and status.
  • Evaluate health trends and risk factors.
  • Provide health education to individuals, families, and community groups in various settings.
  • Inform, educate, and empower people to make appropriate and informed decisions about health issues.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate plans of care.
  • Consult with healthcare team members to administer therapeutic measures as prescribed by the health team.
Requirements
  • A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.
  • Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Veterans' Preference Act is required.
  • Possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and at least one full year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred, not required.
  • Experience in applying nursing theory and public health science to preserving and promoting the health of the population with the nature of the practice being continuous and comprehensive.
  • Experience in providing comprehensive and complex nursing care and community health nursing services in clinics, homes, and schools.
  • Experience in incorporating evidence-based, population-based, comprehensive public health nursing services to address community needs including communicable disease control and prevention, epidemiological investigations, immunizations, obesity, reproductive health needs, family planning, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) screening, treatment, and education.
