Rail Vehicle Electronics Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Rail Vehicle Electronics Technician to join our team at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA). As a key member of our City Transit Division, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing rail vehicle electronic printed circuit boards and subsystems.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair rail vehicle electronic printed circuit boards and subsystems.
- Provide technical support to all rail locations and assist SEPTA's engineering department with electrical/electronic projects.
- Interpret electrical, electronic, and mechanical schematics.
- Remove and insert semiconductor devices using soldering/de-soldering equipment.
- Conduct diagnostic tests using equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, oscilloscopes, and computers.
- Operate computer-controlled Automated Test Equipment (ATE) to test and troubleshoot printed circuit boards.
- Repair open conductors on multi-layered printed circuit boards.
- Test and repair high power semiconductor modules.
- Perform failure analysis on printed circuit boards and make recommendations to increase their reliability.
- Write procedures to test and calibrate printed circuit boards and on-board vehicle system/system faults.
- Design and fabricate diagnostic test equipment for printed circuit boards.
- Maintain and repair automatic test equipment, test fixtures, power supplies, meters, and other test equipment.
- Assist Operations Managers, Engineering Department, and vendor representatives with the installation, development, commissioning, and troubleshooting of new and existing rail equipment.
- Inspect, repair, and calibrate the LRV power brake vital safety relay.
- Provide technical support for rail vehicle electrical/electronic equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent with 2 years of electronic technical school, associate degree in electronics, or military electronics-technical training.
- Valid driver's license.
- Special knowledge and training in handling static sensitive devices, interpreting electrical, electronic, software, and mechanical schematics, and using soldering and de-soldering equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair a variety of rail vehicle propulsion systems.
- Ability to use computer software to diagnose and repair rail vehicles.
- Ability to use stereo microscopes.
- Ability to use IEEE graphic symbols for logic functions.
- Quality control standards.
Rail Vehicle Electronics Technicians work primarily in the electronic repair shop and occasionally at other rail vehicle locations.
