Senior Director of Public Safety Operations

**About the Role:**
The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Director of Public Safety Operations to oversee and direct all administrative functions within Shelter Security Management.
This leadership role will provide high-level oversight for uniformed services operational activities in shelters, including patrol, policy enforcement, security, de-escalation, training, and other law enforcement-related activities. The successful candidate will share an understanding of law enforcement best practices and have experience in providing security and safety services within a social service framework.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Overssee procurement of goods and professional services to support daily operations for 500+ Peace Officers, ensuring they are equipped with necessary equipment and tools.
- Manage $85M security contract to ensure security services are properly funded and that all DHS contracted shelters are appropriately staffed with security guards.
- Be responsible for $29M PS budget, managing spending and staffing to ensure accurate funding and appropriate staffing levels.
**Requirements:**
- A baccalaureate degree and five years of full-time experience at the executive level in a large government agency, business firm, civic or community organization, or;
- A master's degree in social work, public administration, business administration, economics, accounting, or related fields and four years of full-time experience as described above.
**Preferred Skills:
- Extensive prior experience in providing security and safety services within a social service framework.
- Special consideration given to candidates with an advanced degree and/or an educational background in social work and/or trained in trauma-informed care.
- Experience working with community stakeholders such as nonprofit partnerships.
- Results-driven and self-motivated.
**Compensation and Benefits:**
The estimated salary for this position is between $120,000 and $160,000 per year, depending on experience. The City of New York offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
