Role Overview

The MRI Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards, ensuring the highest level of proficiency in operating MRI scanners and associated equipment. This includes scanner operation, post-processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport, and patient monitoring equipment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Examines requests and verifies orders for each assigned patient, referring to the Radiologist when necessary to ensure accurate examination performance.
  • Properly identifies patients using two identifiers and assists them during the procedure, providing a clear explanation of the process.
  • Reviews patients' medical histories, EMR's, and other relevant data to prepare for exams, documenting all information on appropriate worksheets.
  • Takes responsibility for the exam from start to completion, ensuring timely and accurate results.
  • Administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols, recording type and amount as needed.
  • Evaluates image quality, consulting with Radiologists if necessary, and recognizes abnormal anatomy, processing additional images or measurements as instructed.
  • Provides basic patient care, informs nursing staff of any changes, and initiates life support measures when necessary.
  • Performs invasive procedures under sterile conditions, adhering to bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA-approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology, or active enrollment in a registry-eligible program.
  • ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology, ARRT or NMTCB certification for Nuclear Medicine, with advanced registry from the ARMRIT or ARRT in MRI within one year of hire.
  • CPR certification required.
