We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Community Support Specialist to join our team at Capital Area Community Services, Inc. Head Start in Charlotte, Michigan.

As a key member of our team, you will provide critical support services to individuals and families in need, promoting independence and self-sufficiency through direct assistance, advocacy, and referrals.

This is an onsite part-time position, working 28 hours per week during normal business hours. The pay rate for this role is $18.21 per hour.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide needs assessment, direct and referral services, advocacy, and follow-up to assist individuals in meeting basic needs.
  • Serve as a receptionist for the Service Center, providing clients and visitors with community resource information and explanations of how to access services.
  • Determine eligibility and assist clients with complexities related to emergency shelter and utility assistance applications.
  • Assist program participants and guests with selecting educational enrichment activities to comply with program requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date client files and link program participants and guests with service providers, employers, landlords, and other resources to meet their needs.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of human or social services, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. A two-year degree in human services or relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.

Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in delivering direct and information/referral services to low-income communities.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of others, with the ability to encourage and guide others in their quest for independence.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Advanced computer skills required.
